Ranfer Sprints down at the Beira

The Ranfer Sprints is due to splash the waters of the Beira on the 20th of August 2016 at the Colombo Rowing Club.

The Ranfer Sprints, which was originally initiated by Niramal Ranasinghe and Rohan Fernando, two of the most famous names among the rowing fraternity, 26 years ago.

The regatta, in its early stages hosted only the men’s category but has evolved into the women’s and masters’ classes since 2005. This year, Ranfer Sprints will be hosting its 27th edition.

The Regatta takes the shorter form of the traditional 1000 meter races at the Colombo Rowing Club. The regatta will be rowed down over a 300 meter course and will be comprised of 2 rounds.

The sculls of the Crews will race first, followed by the pairs and fours and each crew will row up and down twice in each race. The races will be on the basis of points.

Round 1- Pier to the 300 m mark (up) 4 8 12
Round 2- 300 m mark to the pier (down) 7 11 17

The team with the highest number of points at the end of the day will be winners of the Regatta.

Crews such as the Colombo Rowing Club, S. Thomas’ College, Royal College, Ananda College, University of Moratuwa, University of Colombo, Musaeus College, Ladies College and Bishops College are expected to take part in this year’s regatta.

Head down to the Colombo Rowing Club this Saturday afternoon to witness a spectacular display of intense rowing between the Crews.
