Rain ruins Sri Lanka’s warm up game

Sri Lanka’s preparations for the Champions Trophy haven’t been ideal and the three warm up games in England ahead of the tournament were crucial for them. There was a massive blow to the Sri Lankan squad’s preparation yesterday after their practice match against Pakistan was abandoned in Birmingham.

The day-night encounter was supposed to get underway at 1pm, but was abandoned at 4pm after persistent rain.

Sri Lanka have two more warm-up games, also at Edgbaston against India and West Indies on the 1st of June and 4th of June respectively.

After the warm-up games, the Sri Lankans leave to the Welsh capital of Cardiff where they will take on New Zealand on the 9th of June. The Sri Lankans then will return to London to play hosts England and defending champions Australia on the 13th and 17th of June respectively.

Nine of the 15 member Sri Lankan squad didn’t take part in a Sri Lanka Cricket conducted practice triangular tournament at Pallekele as they were involved in the IPL.
