Rahul, Suryakumar to lead India in South Africa white-ball series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced squads for the upcoming India tour of South Africa, where KL Rahul is named captain for ODIs and Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead India in T20Is, Cricbuzz reported.

The two seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not been included for both ODIs and T20Is as the duo has informed the BCCI that they will take a break from the white-ball format for the South Africa series. Apart from this, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj, who were also part of the recent ODI World Cup, have been rested for the ODI series, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja will make their returns to ODI and T20I setups, respectively.

As the experienced players are not participating, the doors are now opened for the youngsters to make their mark in the white-ball format for India. Accordingly, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Deepak Chahar earned spots in the ODI squad, while Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and Deepak Chahar are featuring in the T20I side.

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are named vice captains for T20I and Test series, respectively. Ajinkya Rahane, who was the vice-captain in their previous Test series against West Indies in July, has been left out from the Test squad, while Ruturaj Gaikwad was able to retain his place and Shreyas Iyer is also set to make his return to the red-ball format.

The tour will kick off from the three-match T20I series on the 10th of December before the ODI series to be played next, and the tour will end with the two-match test series, which includes a Boxing Day test match as well.
