Ragama in big win over CCC

114

Ragama Cricket Club launched their defence for the SLC Premier knock out limited overs cricket title with an impressive 113 runs victory over the CCC in their Group ‘A’ opening fixture worked off at the R. Premadasa Stadium recently.

This was a fine start for Ragama CC who were able to completely outclass their opponents in all departments of the game while completing their task with plenty of overs and time to spare.

Ragama CC’s healthy total of 207 for 4 wickets was too much for the CCC batsmen as they collapsed for a disappointing 94 runs from just 25.5 overs.

Ragama CC’s two opening bowlers Lahiru Jayaratne (4 for 21) and Nilanka Premaratne (5 for 23) played havoc with the CCC top order while sharing nine wickets between them through some real hostile bowling during the early stages of the innings.

The two seamers made certain that there will be no contest at the end by running through the CCC top order during their opening spells with only all rounder and former Sri Lanka Under-19 cap Madhuka Liyanapathiranage making any significant contribution.

Earlier Ragama CC put into bat got off to a sedate start under gloomy conditions but accelerated later on and went on to put up a match winning total of 207 for 4 wickets from their restricted 43 overs.

Opener Dananjaya de Silva (41) and Ian Daniel (43) set the pace for a good total with some useful contributions before Lahiru Thirimanna (54) and Chanaka Wijesinghe (46) joined in to add the finishing touches in great style.

Ragama CC: 207-4 in 43 overs (Dananjaya de Silva 41, Ian Daniel 43, Lahiru Thirimanna 54, Chanaka Wijesinghe 46 n. o)

CCC: 94 in 25.5 overs (Madhuka Liyanapathiranage 24, Lahiru Jayaratne 4/21, Nilanka Premaratne 5/23)
