South Africa have called up Beuran Hendricks ahead of the third ODI against Pakistan in Centurion on 25 January.

The left-arm quick, who has featured in seven T20Is and looks set to be given his ODI debut, will be joined by Quinton de Kock and Dale Steyn, who have also been recalled after sitting out the first two games in Port Elizabeth and Durban, with Duanne Olivier, Dane Paterson and Heinrich Klaasen dropping out of the 13-man squad.

Hendricks, 28, will have a chance to impress the South Africa selectors ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, while the success of Pakistan’s towering left-armer Shaheen Afridi may have influenced the decision.

“We are very happy with the depth of our fast-bowling resources, particularly if you consider that Lungi Ngidi is still on the road back from injury, and we also want to have a look at Anrich Nortje when he is fully recovered,” South Africa’s chief selector Linda Zondi said.

“At the same time, we want to explore all the options that are available to us, and Beuran will be able to offer variety to our attack. We are well aware of what Duanne, Dane and Heinrich have to offer, and in the case of Duanne, we are mindful of the amount of bowling he has done at the top level over the past month.

South Africa won the second ODI by five wickets at Kingsmead on Tuesday to level the series at 1-1.
