Hatton National Bank and MAS Active record thumping wins to secure semi-final berths

MCA Bharti Airtel Super 8s T20 tournament organized by the Mercantile Cricket Association in collaboration with Airtel started today.

Quarter final 1 and 2 saw Hatton National Bank and MAS Active registering heavy wins against Nations Trust Bank and Mobitel.

 

Hatton National Bank vs Nations Trust Bank

Nations Trust Bank suffered a hefty 105 runs defeat against the strong Hatton National Bank team in the 1st quarter final worked out at MCA grounds on Friday morning.

NTB skipper Tharindu Ariyawansa won the toss and elected to field first. HNB batting line up amassed a commanding 192 runs for 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs with Sri Lanka test player Kosala Kulasekara scoring an unbeaten 58 runs which consisted 4 massive sixes while Sri Lanka ‘A’ team one drop batsman Madawa Warnapura made a quick-fire half century. Opening batsman Damitha Hunukubura stroked valuable 49 runs. Former Josephian left arm spinner Moditha Weerasinghe was the stand out bowler for NTB with 2 wickets for 32 runs in his quota of 4 overs.

Chasing a massive target of 193, NTB failed to gather momentum losing wickets at regular intervals as they were bundled out for a mere 87 runs. Top order batsman Avishka Liyanage was most resilient batsman scoring 43 runs in a losing cause for NTB while Jayantha Nirmana chipped in with 23 runs. Left arm fast bowler Vimukthi Perera grabbed 2 wickets while Kosala Kulasekara captured 2 scalps for HNB.

Hatton National Bank – 192/4 in 20 overs : Kosala Kulasekara 58*, Madawa Warnapura 50, Damitha Hunukubura 49, , Moditha Weerasinghe 2/32.

Nations Trust Bank – 87 all out in 19.2 overs : Avishka Liyanage 43, Jayantha Nirmana 23, Kosala Kulasekara 2/12, Vimukthi Perera 2/14.

 

MAS Active vs Mobitel

MAS Active secured an exciting 63 runs (according to D/L method) against Mobitel in their 2nd MCA Bharti Airtel Super 8s T20 quarter final played at MCA grounds on Friday afternoon.

MAS Active won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Attacking opening pair of Dilshan Munaweera and Udara Jayasundara bludgeoned the Mobitel bowling attack to all parts of the ground as the pair put on a 100+ stand for the first wicket scoring half centuries in no time. MAS Active finished their innings on a substantial total of 231 for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Sri Lanka T20 player Dilshan Munaweera scored 66 runs while Udara Jayasundara made 55 elegant runs. Former Nalandian off-spinner Koshan Danushka took 3 wickets while Tharindu Heshan picked up 3 wickets for Mobitel.

Chasing an ample target of 232 in 20 overs, Mobitel fell short of 63 runs when the Rains came down and the game was awarded to MAS Active according to the Duckworth and Lewis method. Mobitel were 107 for the loss of 4 wickets in 13.4 overs with hard hitting left hander Nalin Vimukthi unbeaten on 54 runs. Sri Lanka ‘A’ team right arm off-spin bowler Tharindu Kaushal was accounted for 2 wickets.
