U19 Cricket – Dharmapala stun St. Peter’s on rain hit day

Almost all of the Singer U19 Schools Division One Cricket Tournament matches were hampered by rain today (5th).

Trinity College, Kandy vs St. Anthony’s College,  Wattala

No play was possible on day 2 of the under 19 singer schools encounter between Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College at Wattala today(5). Persistent rain meant that the game was called off on day 2 without a ball being bowled.

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa vs St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena

Play was called off early in Moratuwa with less than 2 overs being bowled on day 2 due to rain, as the game between Prince of Wales and St. Benedict’s ended in a stalemate.

Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya vs St. Peter’s College, Colombo

The biggest surprise of the day came when the strong St. Peter’s batting line up was shot out for a paltry 83 runs against Dharmapala College, who have lost 5 outrights this season.

Dharmapala resuming from their overnight score of 116/7 were all out in no time with an addition of just eight runs to the total. Spin twins, Chathura Obeysekara and Mohammed Ameen picked up 4 wickets each for St. Peter’s College.

St. Peter’s in their reply lost wickets at regular intervals to be bundled out inside 35 overs handing a 41 run first inning win for Dharmapala College. Mahima Weerakoon was the chief destroyer picking up 4 scalps while Chamindu Samarasinghe and Dilshan Silva picked up 3 each.

The Josephians were in tatters when rain saved them from a first innings defeat in their game against De Mazenod College worked off in Kandana today(8).

Jehan Daniel stood up with a gutsy 47 for the visitors as they ended the day on 83/7 in reply to De Mazenod’s 155 all out while Mithila Geeth caused all sorts of trouble for the Josephian batsmen as he ended with top figures of 6/18.

Only 42.1 overs was possible in the game between St. Servatius College, Matara and Anuradhapura MMV worked off at Matara today(5).
