St. Sebastian’s made easy work of the below par target of 160, winning by 62 runs on the D/L method in the Limited over encounter against Prince of Wales College, as the game was brought to an abrupt end.

The 32nd Limited over encounter between Prince of Wales College and St. Sebastian’s was ended in disrespectful manner as crowds invaded the pitch and the umpires were forced to hand the Sebastianites a 62 win according to the Duckworth Lewis method.

Winning the toss, Prince of Wales captain Vishva Chathuranga had no hesitation in batting first as he wanted to take first lease of a batting friendly surface.

The Cambrian openers came out all guns blazing as the duo put on 43 off 5.5 overs at a healthy run rate of 7.8.

Sadun Fernando was the first to be dismissed off a peach of a delivery by the lad who represented Sri Lanka in a single ODI, Avishka Fernando for 15 runs off 22 balls.

Captain Vishva Chathuranga soon followed as playing a rash heave across the line, losing his off stump for 26.

Number three and four batsman, Sabin Dharshika and Avindu Fernando put on some resistance with a 27 run partnership.

Dharshika was caught out in the deep for 17 off the bowling of Praveen Jayawickrama as Fernando (21) became Tashik Perera’s second victim.

Constant wickets by the Sebastianites bowlers kept the Cambrian batsman in check, keeping a lid on the scoring.

The last seven Prince of Wales batsmen notched up just 66 runs as excellent bowling restricted the Cambrians to just 159 in 43.4 overs.

Tashik Perera was the pick of the bowlers for the Sebs with 4 for 25 off just 6.4 overs. Nimesh Bandara bowled well in tandem with him ending his ten over spell with 3 for 19 which included 2 maidens.

Avishka Fernando and Malintha Peiris came out with a circumspect approach to the below par total.

The pair kept the scoreboard ticking by dispatching the loose deliveries and giving necessary respect to the good deliveries on their way to a Nelson (111) opening run stand.

Avishka Fernando made a sensational half century before he was dismissed caught at deep long on off the bowling of Kaumal Nanayakkara for 56 off 48 ball which included 8 fours and a solitary six.

Number three batsman Nuwanidu Fernando did not disturb the scorers as he was adjudged leg before wicket off the bowling Savidu Peiris.

Captain Mishen Silva and Nimesh Bandara came and went for 6 and 10 runs respectively as the target loomed ever so close.

Malintha Peiris reached his half century amidst the crowd invasions and wickets falling at the other end.

Peiris along with number six batsman, Tharusha Fernando took the Sebastianites to 154 as the crowd invasions got out of hand and St Sebastians were handed a 62 run win on Duckworth-Lewis method.

Malintha Peiris finished unbeaten on 62 while Thrusha Fernando was unbeaten on 2.

Savindu Peiris was the only bowler who managed to impress with the ball, picking 3 for 21 off 10 overs which included 2 maidens.
