A squad of 15 along with 3 standby players has been announced, for the Sri Lanka Women’s tour of New Zealand due to take place in October-November, at a SLC meeting held recently.

Of those who made it into the initial 20 member squad announced in September, four players have failed to make it into the touring party while 2 have been placed on standby. One of Sri Lanka’s top all-rounders Eshani Lokusooriya is one of the big names that didn’t make the final cut along with Rose Perera, Suganthika Kumari and Kushanthi Liyanage while Oshadi Ranasinghe and Lasanthi Madushani have been placed on standby along with one of the two new inclusions Achini Kulasuriya.

Shashikala Siriwardene will captain the team. This will be her 1st assignment as captain after her reappointment. Former skipper Chamari Atapattu will be her deputy.

The squad is as follows:

1. Shashikala Siriwardene (Captain)

2. Chamari Atapattu (Vice Captain)

3. Prasadini Weerakkody

4. Dilani Manodara

5. Inoka Ranaweera

6. Ama Kanchana

7. Maduri Samuddhika

8. Nipuni Hansika

9. Udeshika Prabodhini

10. Sripali Weerakkody

11. Hasini Perera

12. Anushka Sanjeevani

13. Nilakshi de Silva

14. Chamari Polgampola

15. Sugandhika Dassanayake

Sri Lanka will face an uphill task as they take on the much fancied Kiwis aka the White Ferns, captained by Suzie Bates, in their home turf. At the recently released ICC women’s team rankings Sri Lanka were languishing at 8th place whereas the White Ferns are placed 3rd, so a good performance by the Lankans would surely see them rise up the rankings.

The tour will commence on the 31st of October, with the Lankans taking on New Zealand A in an ODI, at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.
