Badulla District leg-spinner Didula Palliyaguru produced day’s most intriguing bowling figures, while Puttalam District skipper Kavindu Irosh, Kurunegala captain Dulaj Ranatunga and Asanka Thilina from little known Magala Kanda MV, Polonnaruwa made notable contributions on day one of the Prima Cup Under-15 Inter District Tournament matches played yesterday.
Palliyaguru picked up five wickets for just nine runs in a spell of four overs to restrict Ampara to 126 runs and lead Badulla to three wickets victory.
Dulaj Ranatunga hammered 105 runs in 71 balls (20x4s) to power Kurunegala to 313 runs. In reply, Matale were 38 for three wickets when rain prevented further play.
The other century of the day was scored by Puttalam District skipper Kavindu Irosh (101 in 103 balls – 13x4s, 2x6s) who opted to bat first. Puttalam made 212 for nine wickets in 45 overs. In reply Colombo North were 46 for two wickets in 9.2 overs when rain forced an abrupt end to the match at Campbell Park. The other match played in Colombo (Ananda Mawatha) too ended in a no-decision due to rain. There the highlight was the four-wicket haul taken by Colombo North-I skipper Jehan Danial against Gampaha.
At Polgahawela, Magala Kanda MV, Polonnaruwa speedster Asanka Thilina produced a five-wicket haul (in 7.5 overs) to guide Polonnaruwa to ten runs victory as his spell reduced Anuradhapura to 123 runs.
At Kilinochchi, Kilinochchi District registered a two-wicket victory over Mullaitivu as left-arm spinner Y. Sajeewan of Vikneshwra Vidyalaya, Kilinochchi came up with a good double to help the hosts.
