Seven group stage matches from Tier A and Tier B of the SLC Major League tournament were held yesterday and today.
The only tier A match to be held today was played between SSC and BRC at Dombagoda. In reply to SSC’s 1st innings total of 305, BRC piled on a mammoth 456 thanks to a marathon innings from Deshan Dias, who remained unbeaten at the end of the innings with 152 runs in front of his name.

With a deficit of 151 runs, the SSC 2nd innings crumbled one by one, courtesy of a brilliant spell by the tournament’s current highest wicket-taker, Duvindu Thilakarathna, as well as Tharindu Kaushal, who each picked 5 and 4 wickets respectively.
SSC ultimately managed to survive an innings defeat as their lower order hanged in for the last play of the day. SSC were 153/9 at stumps, leading by only 2 runs with 1 wicket in hand.
The Bloomfield and Kandy Customs meeting was concluded as yet another draw for the Tier B points table, as the latter earned a first innings win.
Chanaka Wijesinghe and Rajitha Wickramarachchi’s brilliant centuries boosted KCSC’s 1st innings to 456 as the pair scored 152 and 138 respectively. In Bloomfield’s 2nd innings, a target of 150 was set to chase Kandy Customs in 19 odd overs. Customs were at 62/3 at stumps. The 2nd highest wicket-taker of Tier B, Gayan Sirisoma, picked up a match bag of 8 wickets in the process.
