The 25th Singer – MCA Premier League commenced today, 9th September in Colombo and its suburbs with three matches being worked out despite rain interruption.

Sampath Bank vs Dimo Lanka
Sampath Bank scraped through to a 5-run win (D/L) over Dimo Lanka in their match played at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.
After being sent into bat in a 45-over encounter, Sampath managed to get only 237 runs. Young opening batsman Avishka Fernando slammed a quick-fire 65 while left-handed Rumesh Buddhika made 59. Fast-bowler Thikshila De Silva and off-spinner Ramesh Mendis shared five wickets for Dimo.
The match was interrupted by rain once again and Dimo got a fresh target of 192 runs in 32 overs. They were then bundled out for 186 with 3 balls to spare. Wicket-keeper batsman Lasith Abeyrathne and left-handed Matheesha Perera made 28 and 22 respectively while left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya captured 4 scalps. Fast bowler Kasun Rajitha and off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.
Sampath Bank – 237 all out in 44.3 overs: Avishka Fernando 65, Rumesh Buddika 59, Hasantha Fernando 31, Thikshila de Silva 3/36, Ramesh Mendis 2/22.
Dimo – 186 all out in 31.3 overs: Lasith Abeyrthna 28, Matheesha Perera 22, Prabath Jayasuriya 4/32, Kasun Rajitha 2/38, Tharindu Kaushal 2/33.
Hatton National Bank vs Kanrich Finance
The debutants in the big league, Kanrich Finance suffered a 37-run loss (D/L) at the hands of HNB at Colts grounds.
Kanrich won the toss and elected to field and due to overnight rain, the match overs were deducted to 43. Experienced Madawa Warnapura and wicket-keeper batsman Deshan Dias made identical scores of 51 at the top of the order for HNB but their middle order crumbled to only 157. Off-spin duo, Akila Dananajaya and Alankara Asanka grabbed 3 wickets apiece for Kanrich Finance.
In reply of HNB, Kanrich innings was interrupted by rain which brought a premature ending to the game at 27.2 over mark. They needed to have scored 137 but they had managed 99 for the loss of 8 wickets. Young spinner Lahiru Vimukthi grabbed 4 wickets while his partner-in-crime, left-arm spinner Naveen Gunawardene picked up 2 wickets.
Hatton National Bank – 157 all out in 40.3 overs: Deshan Dias 51, Madawa Warnapura 51, Akila Dananjaya 3/36, Alankara Asanka 3/45.
Kanrich Finance – 99/8 in 27.2 overs: Kasun Vidura 36, Alankara Asanka 21, Lahiru Vimukthi 4/39, Naveen Gunawardana 2/22.
Tee Jay Lanka vs Hayleys
The match played at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa ended without a result. Fast-bowler Suranga Lakmal returned to competitive cricket taking 2 wickets for Tee Jay Lanka.
