Havelock Sports Club overcame a scrappy first half performance and produced a late rally to shake off a stubborn Police SC outfit and book their place in the Cup Segment of the Maliban Inter-Club Rugby League (18th January 2026).
After applying some early pressure, Havies forced a turnover inside their own red zone before smoothly working their way into the opposition 22. They then worked through a few phases before skipper Janindu Fernando wrestled his way over. Samuel Maduwantha added the extras(PSC 00-07 HSC)
The Cops wasted no time with their response. A neat line break from Naveen Kanishka put them within 5 metres, some quickly constructed phases saw the ball find the hands of Kaliova Mocetadra who touched down in the corner. Prince Chamara curled in the conversion (PSC 07-07 HSC)

Kaliova was once again in the thick of things as he won a penalty in kicking distance which Chamara made full use of to give his side the advantage for the first time.(PSC 10-07 HSC)
The trusty boot of Maduwantha sent Havies into the Police red zone once again, with Udara Lakshan touching down after a few phases off the resulting lineout.(PSC 10-12 HSC)
Mohamed Rifan made the error of letting the ball bounce inside his own red zone a few minutes later. Sujan Kodithuwakku was first on the scene, before the ball was once again worked to Kaliova who went under the posts to put the Cops in the ascendancy. Chamara converted. (PSC 17-12 HSC)
Neither team troubled the scorers for the rest of the half as errors crept into the visitors’ game, however Police weren’t able to capitalise and extend their advantage.
Half Time: Police Sports Club 17(2T, 2C,1P) – Havelock Sports Club 12 (2T,1C)
The second half started off in similar fashion, with neither team able to wrestle momentum their way. It was only at the hour mark that the Havies forwards came to the party when Azmir Fajudeen drove over off the back of a rolling maul set from 5 metres out. Maduwantha made no mistake with the extras. (PSC 17-19 HSC)
That score seemed to put a dagger in the hearts of the Cops as they continued to let the visitors creep into good attacking positions. Abdullah Faiz barged over to put some daylight between the sides after more good work by the forwards, this time off the back of a scrum. (PSC 17-24 HSC)
Faiz put the final nail in the coffin when he grabbed his second after another strong maul from Havies brought them within 5 metres. (PSC 17-29 HSC)
This win saw last year’s runners up book their place in the Cup Segment, while the Cops will compete for the Plate as both teams concluded their first round of games in the Maliban Inter-Club Rugby League
