Philippe’s injury time equalizer disappoints Super Sun

One of the most anticipated matches in the Dialog Champions league took place when Kalutara Park SC played against rivals Super Sun. Kalutara Park bounced back in the last minute when right winger Philippe scored the goal to equalize the game.

 

Old players back in action

Super Sun SC striker and skipper E.B.Channa along with his team mates put up one of the finest performances on field at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Both teams had 3 foreign players each and most of them were strikers. One of the outstanding strikers was Graham Ebenezer who also scored the opening goal of the game. The standard of both teams were high as the local players blended in according to the foreign players. 

Coming back after the Bangaladesh Tour skipper of Kalutara Park SC Sujan Perera has been able to keep up the form. Former Sri Lankan striker Chrisantha Abeysekara displayed some of his amazing skills for Kalutara Park. Coming back after training at the Manchester United Academy Sanjula Thilan Kalpa played a defensive midfield role as Sikiru Babalola played as an attacking midfielder.

Outstanding performance was put up by the attacking line of Super Sun. Strikers Nuwan and Ebenezer had a perfect understanding to create opportunities to score goals. Proceedings of the game started off and Super Sun had more ball possession and had control of the game.  As the strikers were striving to score, Channa had the chance of kicking the ball towards the nets but failed to do as his shot was off target. 

Kalutara Park lads had the chance of scoring during their counter attack but opponent defense line was strong enough to stop them before they passed the half line. Chrisantha’s free kick hit the bar unexpectedly and the rebound was cleared by the opponents. Few minutes later another free kick was awarded to Kalutara Park. Yet again Chrisantha failed in his target.

Score was nil all during the breather.

Super Sun scores, Philippe equalizes

With the start of the second half Kalutara Park dominated the ball play. Super Sun rarely had the chance of attacking. The ball was meddling around in the centre of the field. Kalutara Park had the opportunity of scoring when Chrisantha took the free kick which was shot to the edge of the goal post. Super Sun goalkeeper Ifham tapped the ball to the outline. Referee awarded the corner kick to Kalutara Park.

Corner kick was cleared by defender Shivanka which helped the Beruwala team to score. Channa collected the ball and made his way in the line to the other end of the field. From there he crossed the ball to centre of the penalty box. Ebenezer’s head was unstoppable as it reached the nets. Super Sun scored the first goal and took the lead.   

Till the 92nd minute Kalutara Park tried their utmost level of attacking but failed to score. Luckily striker Philippe got the chance to score when defender Shivanka was struggling with the ball all alone in the defense line. Philippe snatched the ball from Shivanka and made his way towards the goal post. Standing one on one against goalkeeper Ifham, Philippe lobbed the ball to the nets. Kalutara Park celebrated their equalizer as Super Sun was disappointed.
