Peter’s edge Thomians to advance in to the Cup final.

St. Peter’s College edged S. Thomas’ College by 4 points to advance in to the cup final of the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament. The game was played at the Royal Complex Colombo 7.

S. Thomas’ College kicked off from right to left on a sunny evening in Colombo. Thora got off to a positive start as winger R.S.S. Samuel scored early in the game. Scrumhalf D.M. de Silva converted successfully to make to score 7-nil in favour of  STC.

St. Peter’s College was shell-shocked from the early try and began their search for points as they pressurised the Thomian line and it paid off as the blue black side conceded a penalty in kicking range and skipper M.S.R. Jayawickrama successfully kicked the penalty over to register the first score for Peters. STC 07- Pete 03 

The Bambalapitiya lads continued to pile pressure on the Thomian defence and it took its toll as Peters wingman R.M.S.H. Ratnayake scored off a good chip from centre T.R.R. Fernando to bring the first half to an end with Peters getting the lead n the game for the first time. M.S.R. Jayawickrama failed to convert.

St Peters began the second half in promising fashion and it paid off as the Thomian centre was sin binned for a rash tip tackle. Peters took advantage of the extra man as lock forward L.N.T. Perera crashed over to extend Peters lead further in the game. M.S.R. Jayawickrama missed the conversion. STC 07-13 SPC

S. Thomas’ scored a late try off a well constructed rolling maul but it was all little too late as they also conceded another penalty in the kicking range of M.S.R. Jayawickrama and the Petes added the last points of the game to record a 16-12 convincing win over the school by the sea to advance in to the Cup final of the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament.
