Sri Lanka U19 and Isipathana College opening batsman Pathum Nissanka commenced his 2016/17 All Island Schools Cricket season with a fine, unbeaten knock of 192 against President’s College, Rajagiriya in their season opener on Tuesday at Colts grounds.

Isipathana College captain Sanjula Abeywickrama won the toss and elected to field first. His decision was fruitful as his bowling attack wrapped up the visitors to only 145. Hiruna Sigera made a fighting 35 for the team from Rajagiriya.

Left-arm spinner Madusshika Sandaruwan was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 30 while fast-bowler Neranjan Wanniarachchi and Lahiru Dilshan captured 2 wickets apiece.

In reply, Isipathana College blasted a massive 285 for 5 at stumps on day one. Nissanka stroked 27 fours and 4 sixes during his valiant 168-ball 192 and will look to score the first ‘double ton’ of the season tomorrow morning.

President’s College – 145 all out in 41.5 overs: Hiruna Sigera 35, Shalaka Bandara 30, Mohommad Rifas 22, Madusshika Sandaruwan 4/30, Neranjan Wanniarachchi 3/33, Lahiru Dilshan 2/30.

Richmond College vs St. Mary’s College, Kegalle

Former champions from down south, Richmond College, Galle took the upper hand at stumps on day one in their ‘Singer Trophy’ under 19 division 1 – group A encounter against newly-promoted St. Mary’s College, Kegalle on Tuesday in Galle.

Sri Lanka U19 poolist and Richmond College right-arm seamer Thilanga Udeeshan ripped through the Marians batting line-up taking 5 for 41 while his partner-in-crime Dhananjaya Lakshan captured 4 for 38 to bowl out the visitors to a mere 91 inside 23 overs.

The hosts in their reply posted a healthy 201 for the loss of 7 wickets. Hasaru Chamikara made a subdue knock of 60 while three other batsmen reached 30s. Mass Rahim and Thimira Kumara captured 3 wickets apiece.

St. Mary’s College – 91 all out in 22.5 overs: Ashan Senadeera 31, Thilanga Udeeshan 5/41, Dhananjaya Lakshan 4/38.

Richmond College – 201/7 in 62 overs: Hasaru Chamikara 60, Adithya Siriwardana 36, Ravishka Wijesiri 34*, Duveen Sasindu 36*, Mass Rahim 3/56, Thimira Kumara 3/55.
