Pasindu Lakshanka carries Sri Lanka to final

Red Bull Campus Cricket 2018 - World Finals

A blistering 75* by Pasindu Lakshanka carried Sri Lanka to the final of the Red Bull Campus Cricket 2018 – World Finals, where they will meet India tomorrow(29th) at the same venue.

Sri Lanka, who was thrashed by Pakistan in the final league game yesterday, put up a much improved effort with their full squad available for the play-off today.

Pakistan who was asked to bat first got off to a solid start with their top order batsmen Arsalan Farzand and Khurram Shahzad in full flow. The dismissal of Shahzad for 34 unfortunately opened the flood gates for Pakistan, as they lost all momentum they had gathered during the early stages.

Farzand (53) soon followed Shahzad after compiling a brilliant half century, thereafter Pakistan started to lose their way and were restricted to 142/8 in their 20 over’s.

Right arm quick’s Chamika Karunaratne and Janith Liyanage captured two wickets apiece and bowled decently for Sri Lanka, and paceman Pramod Madushan bowled brilliantly to record figures of 1/13 (4), including an excellent energizer over which went for just four runs – as Sri Lanka put up an impressive show at the latter part of the innings.

The Sri Lankan run chase got off to the worst possible start when Madushan Ravinchandrakumar was clean bowled off the very first delivery of the innings, but thereafter came a valiant recovery stand of 80 runs between Hashan Dumindu and Lakshanka.

Dumindu was bowled for 35, but Lakshanka motored on pacing the run chase brilliantly. He got the much needed support from Janith Liyanage, who hit a couple of lusty blows including a massive six off the energizer over with Sri Lanka well in control of the run chase.

Lakshanka finished with a superb unbeaten 75* hitting the winning runs, while Liyanage remained unbeaten on 19* as Sri Lanka romped home with more than two over’s and 8 wickets to spare.

Lakshanka was named man of the match for his efforts. Sri Lanka will meet India in the finals scheduled for tomorrow. Catch the live action on ThePapare.com from 12.45 pm onwards.
