Panadura and Navy win big in Tier B

Here’s a brief look into few matches which took place in the SLC Tier B Premier League Tournament today.

Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club VS Kalutara Town Club

Ruwantha Ekanayake’s unbeaten century helped Kurunegala YCC post 232 for their first innings in their match against Kalutara Town Club at Welagedara Grounds. The home side was struggling at 60 for 4 early on thanks to brilliant spell by Vihanga Kalhara with the new ball. Hashan Prabath and the centurion Ruwantha Ekanayake then got together and put up a 87 run partnership for the 5th wickets. Prabath scored 50 while Ruwantha went onto make another century in the season. His knock came off 163 deliveries with 12 fours and 1 six.

In reply at stumps Kalutara were 71 for 2 in their first innings.

Police SC vs SL Ports Authority

SLPA were in a commanding position at stumps on day 2 with 223 runs on the board with 2 wickets in hand for their first innings. On the first day, they managed to clean up Police for just 103 runs with Chanaka Komasaru claiming a five-for and Chamikara Edirisinghe taking 4 wickets. In reply SLPA got off to a splendid start with a 122 run stand for the first wicket between Hashan Gunathilake and Yohan De Silva. Yohan made 32 while Hashan carried on but unfortunately missed out on a century when he was dismissed for 99 by Mahesh Priyadarshana. Kalyana Rathnapriya took 4 for 65 while Mahesh picked up 3 for 58 for the Cops. SLPA are currently 120 runs ahead.

Navy SC vs Air Force SC

Ashan Ranasinghe’s 9 wicket match bag helped Navy seal an emphatic innings victory over Air Force at Welisara today. Navy won the toss and elected to bat first. They made a formidable first innings total of 316 all out with half centuries from Sameera Sandamal, Amith Eranda and Buddika Asalanga. Sahan Jayawardane took 4 wickets for the Airmen. In reply Air Force were bundled out for just 103 runs in 39.4 overs. With only four batsmen reaching double figures, the Sailors were all over the Airmen with the ball. Ashan bagged 4 for 18 while Dinushka Malan took 2 for 9 with the new ball.

With a daunting task ahead of them, Air Force came on to bat for their second innings in the second session of day 2. Things worsened as they crumbled yet again to the bowling of Ashan Ranasinghe. This time with only three double figure scores from their batters, they could only make 89 which gave Navy an innings and 124 run victory. Ashan’s match figures stood at 9 for 49 for Navy.

Lankan CC vs Panadura SC

Pandura SC registered a convincing 9 wicket victory over Lankan CC at Panadura today. They won the toss and put Lankans in to bat first. Lasith Fernando and Nimesh Vimukthi shared 7 wickets among them as Lankan CC crumbled for just 163 runs. Chanaka Ruwansiri top scored with 40 while Charith Fernando chipped in with a valuable 35 down the order.

In reply Pandura posted 294 all out in 65.4 overs. Mishen Silva scored a 100 ball 105 with 3 sixes and 13 fours in the middle order. Opening batsman Mohommad Shilmi scored 75 and together they put up 197 runs for the 3rd wicket. All-rounder Rajeewa Weerasinghe continued his good form with the ball taking 6 for 81 in the first innings.

Lankans had a deficit of 131 runs which put them in back seat. They were in big trouble early on at 66 for 4 but then Shanaka Ruvansiri and Yashan Samarasinghe put up 94 runs for the 5th wicket. After the loss of Shanaka’s wicket for 55, the remaining 5 wickets fell for just 16 runs. Gayan Sirisoma bagged 5 wickets and Lasith Fernando took 3 wickets to go with his four-for in the first innings.

Panadura were handed a target of 46 and they got over the line with utmost ease and registered a 9 wicket victory over the Lankans.
