Colombo International School beat Zahira College by 58 points to 25 in the group stage of the Under 15 Colombo North Zonals held at the Gateway College Basketball courts yesterday.

TP-37This encounter made it very evident that basketball has still not reached its peak outside the traditional basketball playing schools. Zahira College donning their traditional green outfit matched up to the boys from the international circuit height wise, however they could not capitalise on that because of the lack of basic skills. The outcome of this encounter was already written in the stars by the end of the first half as the scores read 19 points to 5 points in favour of CIS.

Half Time – CIS 19 – 05 Zahira College

TP-39The beginning of the second half was no different as Zahira College missed out on a lot of shots under the basket. CIS took advantage of the extra effort put into offense by the boys in green as they dismantled the Zahira defense tactfully. The coach of CIS, sensing that the game was rather easy for his boys and opted to use up his bench to give them valuable game time as preparation for the quarterfinals which is due to start on Friday (3rd Feb). As the final whistle blew there was a rather quiet celebration from CIS with the final scores reading 58 points to 25.
