Navy SC obtained a 24 run lead with 4 wickets in their first innings remaining, after they won the toss and decided to bowl first at Welisara today(14).

Left arm spinner Sudaraka Dakshina had a good start to his career picking up 4 scalps on debut while he got good support from Ishan Abeysekara and Ashan Ranasinghe who picked up 2 wickets each.

Ranasinghe backed up his good performance with ball with an unbeaten 66 batting at no. 3 as the home team ended day one on 167/6. Left arm spinner Mangala Kumara picked up 4 wickets for the visitors.

Suwanji Madanayake more known for his bowling put up a stellar performance with the bat as he made an unbeaten 96 off a first innings total of 235 made by Police SC. His knock included 10 fours and 3 towering sixes. Samith Dushantha gave him good support with 45 runs while Jasdeep Singh picked up 4 wickets for KPCC. Thenuka Dananjaya and Ruchira Silva also picked up three and two wickets respectively.

KPCC got off to a decent start but lost the wicket of Geshan Wimaladharma minutes before close as they ended day one on 39/1 still trailing by 196 runs.

Spins twins Navin Kavikara and skipper Rajeewa Weerasinghe starred once again as they shared seven wickets between them to restrict the strong SLPACC batting unit to 248 runs. Ishan Rangana made a gritty 69 while Chamikara Edirisinghe nurtured the tail to remain unbeaten on 44.

Weerasinghe ended up with four wickets while Kavikara and Lakshan Rodrigo picked up three each.

Lankan CC had seven overs to survive but lost two crucial wickets before close with Sri Lankan cap Chaminda Bandara picking up both wickets to fall.
