Here’s a roundup of the matches which took place today in the Singer U19 Division I Cricket tournament.

Wesley College v St Thomas’ College, Matara 

Patient batting from the hosts helped St Thomas’ College, Matara secure first innings points in their Group D match at the Uyanwatta Stadium. Wesley College resumed play with 95 runs on board for the loss of 3 wickets. They had a horrible start to their day with Movin Subasinghe losing his wicket early on. However his partner Buddima Wijesunadara converted his overnight score to a half century. With few valuable cameos from the tail, Wesley managed to post 184 runs for their first innings. Hirusha Jeewadith bagged a five-for for the hosts.

In response, St Thomas’ College played a composed batting innings. Sachintha Ranasinghe top scored with 53 runs. They declared their innings at 186 for 6, securing a well deserved first innings victory. On stumps on Day 2, Wesley College were 33 for no loss in their 2nd innings.

St Anne’s College v Trinity College 

Trinity College were 183 for 4 at stumps in their Group D encounter against St Anne’s College at the Asgiriya Stadium. The hosts won the toss and elected to field first. The visitors were cleaned up for just 68 runs. Kanishka Senadeera bagged 6 wickets for the hosts.

Trinity dominated with both bat and ball. Abishek Anandakumara was the star with the bat for the hill country boys with an unbeaten 81 as they ended the day with a lead 115 runs. Pasindu Thennakoon bagged 3 wickets for the Annites.

Moratu Vidyalaya v St Anthony’s College 

Nishan Madushka’s and Chamalka Pushpakumara’s half centuries helped Moratu Vidyalaya end day one on a high in their traditional match against St Anthony’s College, Wattala. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. Nishan and Chamalka held the innings together with their composed innings while the the rest of the batsmen struggled. Pathum Vihanga was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 62. The hosts were 249 for 8 before bad light stopped play.

Isipathana College v St Benedict’s College 

St Benedict’s College secured first innings points against Isipathana College in their Group A clash at Kotahena. The hosts won the toss and elected to field first. They managed to restrict Isipathana College for just 172 runs. Mahesh Theekshana, Malindu Perera and Kaveesha Jayathilaka shared 3 wickets each. Savindu Uthsara was the top scorer with 47 while Thevindu Dickwella and Kaliq Amath chipped in with valuable cameos.

In response, the hosts posted 270 for their first innings. It was Theekshana and Kaveesha who starred with the bat as well. Kaveesha top scored with 65 while Theekshana scored 41 runs.

Isipathana College was in a spot of bother in their 2nd innings but they held on until stumps to avoid an outright defeat.
