Navy and NCC finish off Air Force and Army within two days

Nondescript Cricket Club recorded a swashbuckling innings and 156 runs win over Army SC at Maitland place while Navy SC stunned their counter-parts defense service outfit, Air Force SC by 26 runs at Welisara as both teams registered convincing outright wins inside two days during the 5th week of the SLC under 23 division 1 league tournament.

NCC vs Army

Left arm chinaman spinner Ravindu Tillakarathne bowled his best spell in his under 23 career to tear apart the Soldiers as the 17-year old captured a 9 wicket match bag to anchor his team to a massive win. Saranga Rajaguru accompanied Ravindu’s efforts with 5 wickets with his right arm leg spin bowling for NCC. Left hander Leo Fransisco top scored for Army in both innings with 20 and 34 runs respectively.

Navy vs Air Force

Navy spin-twins Akash Senarathne and Yohan Soysa shared 15 Air Force wickets as the Airmen suffered a 26-run loss at the hands of the Sailors at Welisara. Navy set a target of 153 runs for Air Force on day 2 but they ended up 26 runs short of the target with Kelum Nanayakkara scoring invaluable 38 runs for Airmen. Navy won the game incidentally scoring 134 runs each on both innings.

Colts vs CCC

Aruna Dharmasena smashed an effortless century for his team, Colts CC but failed to get his team first innings points as CCC took the first innings lead at Colts grounds. The home team needed to score 365 runs to overcome the visitors but the only positive was the opening stand between Aruna and Sadeera Samarawickrama as they put on 122 runs. Sadeera made 84 runs. CCC skipper Maduka Liyanapathiranage captured 6 wickets for 57 runs as Colts were dismissed for 283 in reply to 364 runs scored by CCC on day 1.

SSC vs Negombo

Nilochana Perera’s fine resilient knock was not enough for Negombo CC as the table toppers; SSC registered yet another first innings win at Bloomfield grounds. In reply to SSC first innings score of 280, Negombo CC was bowled out for 226 in 85 overs with left arm paceman Binura Fernando grabbing 3 wickets.  Malshan Gunasinghe and Malinga Gunarathne added 41 and 31 runs each for Negombo CC. SSC made 61 runs for the loss of 2 wickets at close of play on day 2.

Bloomfield vs Ragama

Bloomfield fought valiantly with the bat on day 2 but Ragama CC are well within their reach of winning the game on first innings points at Braybrooke place. Left hander, Rukshan Weerasinghe remained unbeaten on 98 with well set for a century while left-arm spinner Amila Aponso captured 5 wickets for Ragama. Bloomfield need 140 runs more to win on first innings on day 3 with only 2 wickets in their hand.

SL Ports Authority Cricket Club are well on their way to record a stunning outright victory if the Moratuwa batsmen fail again on day 3 as SLPACC took control of the game at CCC grounds. Ishan Rangana starred with the bat for SLPACC as he top scored with 78 runs while Anuk De Alwis scored his 2nd half-century for SLPACC. Moratuwa SC need 317 runs more to win the game on outright with only 9 wickets remaining.
