Thurstan College left-arm spinner Naveen Gunawardena picked up all 10 wickets in the innings in a dream spell of bowling to secure first innings points for his alma mater against DS Senanayake College in their Singer-Cup traditional game which concluded today at the Thurstan grounds.

After Charana Nanayakkara’s century on the first day, the visitors had no answer for the left-arm spin of Gunawardena as he ran through the batting line-up capturing 10 for 36. This is his career best bowling performance as well as the best bowling performance of the 2016/17 season. The visitors were bowled out for 125 in 51.5 overs with left-handed Shezhaad Ameen and Muditha Lakshan making 30s.

The hosts racked up 146 for the loss of 4 wickets in their 2nd innings with left-handed top order batsman Imesh Viranga scoring a classy half-century, while Dilshan Laheer and Vihan Gunasekara captured 2 wickets each for the visitors at close of play on day two.

Ananda College vs Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya

Ananda College, Colombo completed an easy 10 wicket win over Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya in their Singer-cup traditional game which concluded today in Pannipitiya.

The visitors started day two on 190 for 3 after a cracking century by left-hander Sahan Suraweera yesterday. Skipper Kavishka Anjula made a brisk 41 and decided to declare the innings on 229 for 4 in just 27 overs, Mahima Weerakoon claimed 2 for 66 for the home team.

The home team began their 2nd innings 131 runs behind and were never able to get going as they were bundled out for a below par 132 in 44 overs. Kanishka Jayasundara top scored with 33 while skipper Kavishka Anjula and Pamod Perera bagged two wickets each as the lads from Ananda Mawatha wrapped things up before the tea break.

Gurukula College, Kelaniya demolished Moratu Vidyalaya by an innings and 67 runs in their Singer-cup group C game which was worked off today at Moratuwa grounds.

The visitors declared their innings overnight on 241 for 7 as Theshan Malinda made an unbeaten century. Moratu Vidyalaya started their second essay on day two with an idea to bat the whole day and save the game. But unfortunately, the hosts were bundled out once again for less than 100 as their batsmen faltered.

Maris Stella College, Negombo managed to win a thriller beating Zahira College by 4 wickets in their Singer-cup traditional game which was worked off today at the Zahira grounds.

Resuming day two on 102 for 3, the visitors slumped to 130 for 9 and declared their innings with only a 13-run lead as left-arm spinner Mohommed Mahdhi bowled a terrific spell to claim 5 for 49 and restrict the visitors.

The hosts were once again dismissed for a paltry 113 from 45 overs. Mohommad Zakiy steadied the ship for the hosts scoring a valuable 39 runs, while right-arm off spinner Ravindu Fernando bagged 6 for 31.

Chasing a victory target of 101, Maris Stella were able to cross the winning line with 4 wickets in hand. Captain Sasindu Colombage scored a match winning 35, while left-arm spinner Mohommad Mehdi took another 5-for to complete a match bag of 10 wickets for the game.
