The 4th Battle of the Blue and Green was worked off at the Colombo Colts grounds today between Lumbini College, Colombo and Bandaranayake College, Gampaha.

After winning the toss, Bandaranayake College, Gampaha invited their opponents to take first lease of the wicket. Lumbini had a steady start for the day however they kept losing wickets at regular intervals to hamper their progress.

Kaveen Peiris anchored the batting essay for the Lumbini lads as his crafty innings of 80 aided towards carrying his team through to 247, despite unfortunately falling short of a well-deserved century. Kaveen was well supported throughout the innings by Amitha Dabare, Ravindu Sanjeewa and Kanishka Maduwantha as they chipped in with some decent cameos. Lumbini was eventually bundled out in 57.4 overs as Himath Hansana and Janindu Jayawardana bagged 3 wickets a piece for the lads from Gampaha.

In response to Lumbini’s first innings Bandaranayake College had quite a shaky start. Seamer Pasindu Nadun unsettled the Bandaranayake top order as they folded under the pressure. They ended day 1 in a quite a rut as the scoreboard read 52/4 handing the advantage to the lads from Colombo going into the next day. Pasindu Nadun ended the day with figures of 3/37.
