The My Dad, My Superstar tournament came to end on Sunday at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa as 3 finals under 3 categories were worked off. St. Sebastian’s, Prince of Wales and Ananda won the 3 trophies on offer.

The three 15-over games were played in a manner that the first innings of each match was played first and the run-chases were done after the lunch break respectively.

Super-Dads Final: St. Sebastian’s vs St. Peter’s

The grand finale of the My Dad, My Superstar tournament saw two of the best teams in the tournament competing for the title. Captain of the Moratuwa team, Romesh Kaluwitharana won the toss and elected to bat first.

The Sebs managed to put on a competitive 123 on the board largely thanks to a quick 40 from Dinusha Fernando. He was later adjudged man of the match for his blistering knock.

Niranjan Dabare continued his good form with the ball in the tournament as he picked up 3 wickets for the Peterites. The run-chase was well on course for the Petes until they lost their batsman in form, Saman Jayantha for 34.

Champion-Dads Final: Prince of Wales vs S. Thomas’

The final for the Champion-Dads trophy was pretty much a one sided affair as the Cambrians cruised to a comfortable 9-wicket victory.

Being put into bat first by the home boys, the Thomians managed a modest 105. Vajira Wijegunawardena top-scored for them with 44 runs while Suranga Wijenayaka picked up 3 wickets for Prince of Wales.

The run-chase was all about Cambrian power hitting as Kalum Fernando and Wasantha Lal Fernando remained unbeaten when they crossed the line in the 10th over. Sahan Galappaththi coming at the fall of the 1st wicket scored 36 in no time and had to retire as per tournament rules as batsmen who goes past 35 has to retire. Kalum Fernando won the man of the match award.

Challenger-Dads Final: Ananda vs Nalanda

The Anandians scored 132 runs after they won the toss and elected to bat first. Thilina Kandamby top scored for them with 40 runs while Ishara Amarasinghe grabbed 3 wickets for Nalanda.

The run-chase was going really well for Nalanda until the 12th and 14th overs respectively bowled by Chaminda Rajapaksha and Thilina Kandamby provided 2 wickets each for Ananda.

Requiring 13 runs in the final over Ananda managed to keep Mewan Bopage in the non-strikers end after he opted to take a single in the very first ball of the final over. He remained unbeaten on 49 as Nalanda lost the match by 8 runs. Yohan Jayaweera was the bowler who bowled the last over and won the match for Ananda.

Thilina Kandamby won the man of the match award for his all-round performance.
