Moors in outright win over Ports Authority

Moors Sports Club cruised to a resounding 232 run outright victory over Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament Super Eight match which concluded at the Colts ground in Havelock Park today.

Ports Authority CC who were chasing a huge victory target of 437 runs never looked like making a match of it as they lost wickets at regular intervals and eventually surrendered meekly for a modest 204 runs in their second innings.

Skipper Janaka Gunaratne spearheaded the Moors SC bowling attack quite successfully while claiming three vital wickets and the back up support came from Irosh Samarasooriya and Malinda pushpakumara.

 

Badureliya v Panadura

Meanwhile Badureliya CC completed a rousing four wicket outright victory over Panadura SC in their SLC inter club Premier League Plate Championship match which concluded at Katunayake today.  

Badureliya CC of course took a further seventeen overs on the final day to reach their target where they went through some anxious moments against some tight bowling from the spin pair of Rajeeva Weerasinghe and Gayan Sirisoma.

 

Colts v Chilaw Marians

Colts Cricket Club had the satisfaction of pulling off a splendid innings and 44 runs outright victory over Chilaw Marians CC in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Plate Championship match which concluded at Panagoda today.

Chilaw Marians CC who were trailing by a massive 290 runs on the first innings struggled once again to put up a fight and at least to force a draw to the game despite two superb half centuries from Geeth Kumara (58) and Umesh Karunaratne (62).

Former Sri Lanka youth cap and dynamic all rounder Sachith Pathirana led the bowling attack for Colts CC with a good five wicket haul which gave him a matchbag of nine wickets while opening bowler Ishan Jayaratne and Dilruwan Perera provided the back up support.

Bloomfield v Airforce

Bloomfield wrapped up a morale boosting 176 run outright victory over Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club in their SLC inter club Premier League Plate Championship match which concluded at the Panadura Esplanade today.

The Airmen who were left with an impossible victory target of 409 runs failed to put up any resistance in the second innings as well and they were eventually bowled out for 232 runs in just under 45 overs.

There were good contributions from wicket keeper opening batsman Sajith Kelumpriya (44), Lahiru Lakmal (41) and Yasodha Lanka (62) but none of them really concentrated and settled down to play a long innings to save the game.

Bloomfield of course used only three bowlers in the second innings but they were all outstanding with spinner Chatura Randunu returning the best figures of five wickets for 81 runs from 15.5 overs.

 

Army v SSC

Meanwhile Sri Lanka Army Sports Club put up a gallant performance to force a draw to their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match against the SSC which concluded at Braybrooke Place today.

Army SC who were trailing by 246 runs on the first innings came back strongly firing on all cylinders to pile up a massive 470 runs in their second attempt while occupying the crease almost the entire final day.

Elegant middle order batsman Manjula de Zoysa led the way with a magnificent 120 studded with two sixes and eleven boundaries while opener Mohamed Feshal (93) and Rishan Kavinga (84) also joined in the run spree.

 

NCC v Tamil Union

NCC had to be content with only first innings points over Tamil Union in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match which concluded at the Bloomfield ground in Reid Avenue today.

Tamil Union of course made a determined effort to overtake their opponents huge first innings total of 436 runs following some superb contributions from Rumesh Buddhika (86) and skipper Jeevan Mendis who was stranded on 98 not out which included three sixes and eight boundaries.
