Moors and NCC record comfortable wins within two days

Nondescript Cricket Club and Moors Sports Club finished off their 4th week matches with a day to spare as CCC and SLPACC suffered heavy losses at the end of the 2nd day’s play of the under 23 division 1 tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.

NCC vs SL Ports

Group ‘A’ leaders, Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club suffered a heavy innings and 10 runs defeat at the hands of strong Nondescript Cricket Club as the spin-triplet of NCC, Tharindu Kaushal, Saveen Nanayakkara and Saranga Rajaguru ripped through the SLPACC batting twice at Maitland Place.

NCC spinners made sure SLPACC follow-on their score as the visitors were bowled out for a mere 89 runs in the first innings after being 39/5 at the end of day 1. The Spin-triplet captured 9 wickets as only SLPACC skipper Prashan Wickramasinghe made 22 runs. With 226 runs behind, SLPACC fought hard to save the match in the 2nd innings but the Spin-trio once again stepped up for NCC as SLPACC scored 216 runs in the 2nd innings battling for close to 60 overs. Yohan Chanuka top scored with 51 while AK Tyron (35) and Sanjika Ridma (31) contributed in a losing cause.

SL Ports (2nd inn) – 216 all out in 59.1 overs : Yohan Chanuka 51, A.K. Tyronne 35, Sanjika Ridma 31, Saranga Rajaguru 3/20, Saveen Nanayakkara 2/38, Tharindu Kaushal 2/85.

 

Moors vs CCC

Moors skipper Shehan Jayasooriya excelled with the ball as he took a match winning 9 wicket haul to torment the CCC at their own den at Maitland Crescent as Moors recorded their 2nd outright win of the season beating CCC by an innings and 22 runs.

CCC batting failed two times on the same day as Moors captured 20 wickets on day 2 to close out the game. CCC managed only 104 and 171 in their two innings in reply to Moors first innings score of 297. Lasith Abeyrathne and Chathuranga produced two valiant knocks in the 2nd innings but Captain Shehan stole the limelight with his right-arm off spinners. Left arm leg-spinner Pradeep Ananda took a 5 wicket match bag as Moors continued their dominance in the ongoing under 23 division 1 tournament.

CCC (2nd inn) – 171 all out in 39.5 overs : Lasith Abeyratne 70, Chathuranga Kumara 51, Shehan Jayasooriya 4/56, Pradeep Ananda 2/28, Ruvinda Shamen 2/40.

SSC took control in their match against Air Force SC at Katunayake as SSC need only 6 more wickets on day 3 to register another win and establish themselves in group ‘B’. Resuming from their overnight score of 156/3, SSC managed to consolidate and post a mammoth 370 runs on the board. Kavindu Kulasekara (80), Dasun Shanaka (79) and Pathum Madusanka (53) excelled with brilliant half centuries for SSC while Dushan Vimukthi was the pick of the bowlers with a 4 wicket haul. Air Force in their 2nd essay was 115 for the loss of 4 wickets at close of play on day 2. Skipper, Yashoda Lanka was unbeaten on 70.

Bloomfield seized 1st innings win as their batsmen batted with responsibility to take their team over the line on day 2 against defending champions Tamil Union at Reid Avenue. Resuming from their overnight score of 77/3, Middle-order companions, Damith Priyardarshana (78) and Charitha Kumarasinghe (62) hit half-centuries to lift Bloomfield spirits while Tilaksha Sumanasiri got his team to a crucial win with a well-executed 60 runs. Bloomfield finished their 1st innings on 265 in reply to Tamil Union’s 248. Opening batsman, Minhaj Jaleel made 83 runs in the 2nd innings as Tamil Union ended day 2 on 188 for 5 at stumps. 

Negombo CC lost 3 wickets in their chase of 147 as a heated day 3 is on the cards at Kadirana as Navy SC trying to fight their way back. Negombo CC scored 208 runs in their 1st innings and took a vital 44 run lead as early as day 2. Shihan Dilasiri top scored with 39 runs for Negombo while Sameera Sandamal and Kalhara Peiris captured 4 wickets each. Sailors were bowled out for 190 in their 2nd innings as Malshan Gunasinghe and Kalhan Sineth shared 6 wickets between them. Negombo CC need 114 runs more to win while Navy SC requires 7 wickets to win the game on day 3.

Cracking end is expected at Panagoda as Army SC and Moratuwa SC vying for supremacy in their under 23 division 1 tournament match is heading for a fantastic finish. Army soldiers need 254 runs to win in their 2nd innings after being bowled out for a lousy 115 runs on day 2 in their 1st innings. Left-arm spinner Thenuka Dananjaya scalped 5 wickets for Moratuwa while Leo Fransisco top scored with 27 runs. Moratuwa SC fared no better in their 2nd innings as they were restricted to only 190 with Peterite Sachin Dalpathadu scoring a fighting 37 runs and Hashan Chamara from Royal College,Panadura stroking 35 runs. Army SC was 54 for 2 wickets in their chase of 254.
