Pakistani veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has joined the Colombo Kings franchise squad, filling one of their remaining overseas player slots.

40-year-old Hafeez is an active international cricketer and also one of the players who participated in the Sri Lanka Premier League in 2012 for Wayamba United team.

Colombo Kings franchise is the most affected squad due to players pulling out of the tournament as three of their overseas players; Faf du Plessis, Andre Russel and Manvinder Bisla all made themselves unavailable for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) citing various reasons. The addition of Hafeez will be a great relief for Kings as he is one of the top T20 all-rounders in the world.

LPL is scheduled to commence on 21st of November according to a previous media release by Sri Lanka Cricket but after the current developments related to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, SLC have found themselves in a challenging situation to pull together the tournament amid quarantine laws and logistical nightmares. 

The final decision on the tournament’s future will be taken tomorrow (4) by Sri Lanka Cricket and the government health authorities.
