Power Tech Cement, MAS Silueta and Commercial Credit ‘B’ won the second set of group matches in the Unilever Fair & Lovely MEN, Mercantile ‘B’ Division 50 over tournament which concluded today(20th) at 3 venues around the island.

Power Tech Cement vs Mobitel

Power Tech won the toss elected to bat first on a dry surface at Surrey grounds. Skipper Lahiru Jayakody led the innings from the front as he stroked a classy 80 off 122 balls to guide Power Tech Cement to a fighting 246 all out in 50 overs. Right-arm seamer Lahiru Samarakoon picked up 3 crucial wickets, while Lakshan Jayasinghe and Chamika Karunarathne chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.

Chasing 247 to win, Mobitel was in a spot of bother, losing 7 wickets for 44 runs. Right-handed middle-order bat Koshan Jayawickrama stroked a 60 ball 104 but it was not enough as Power Tech secured their 2nd consecutive win in the tournament.

MAS Silueta vs John Keells ‘B’

John Keells skipper Ashan Peiris won the toss and opted to field in the game played at Moors grounds. Left-arm seamer Akthab Cader was impressive earlier on as MAS Silueta was 32/5 in the power play overs. however right-handed Denuwan Rajakaruna (117*) counter attacked along with Charana Nanayakkara (63) as MAS Silueta finished on 256/9 in 50 overs. Cader was the chief destroyer as he finished with 4/54, while Nuwan Thushara picked up 2 scalps.

In reply John Keells never got going as wickets fell in regular intervals. Left-hander Kaveen Bandara was the main stay as he remained unbeaten on 76. Off-spinner Angelo Emmanuel however ripped through the John Keells batting line-up with a crafty 4-for to give MAS Silueta a convincing 119 run win.

Singer won the toss and invited Commercial Credit (B) to bat first as they made a formidable 288/5 in their 50 overs in the game played at BRC grounds. Right-handed top-order bat Akeel Inham (77) and Anura Dias (51) were the highlights of the innings, while Sanitha Demel smashed a quick-fire 49 to take advantage in the game.

Chasing 289 to win, Singer put up a decent batting effort but Commercial Credit (B)’s bowling and batting was up to the mark as they beat Singer by 77 runs in a one-sided encounter.
