Mathews to lead Sri Lanka against Tigers

Sri Lanka will be skippered by all-rounder Angelo Mathews for the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh, while Dinesh Chandimal will take over as T20 captain against the Tigers.

 

The 20-man squad for the two-Test series, ahead of three ODIs and one T20. Mathews takes over as Test leader following Mahela Jayawardene’s resignation from the job, as he had been groomed for the role over the past year.

Otherwise, spinner Ajantha Mendis was included for the first time since 2011, usually not a part of the longer format side. Tharanga Paranavitana, Prasanna Jayawardene and Thilan Samaraweera were not as fortunate.

The first Tests begins on 8 March in Galle, and the second will be played in Colombo from 16 March.
