Maris Stella College, Negombo eased into a comfortable victory against Bandaranayake College Gampaha as they trounced the latter by an innings and 75 runs.  

Resuming their first innings on day two Maris Stella had no remorse as they piled on the runs led by a sparkling innings by Sri Lanka U19 cap Lasith Croospulle. After the hosts declared on a staggering 318/6 the visitors struggled in their pursuit of salvaging the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Pasindu Ushetti spearheaded the attack for Maris Stella with a 5 for as Bandaranayake College were humbled for 105 handing an outright victory to Maris Stella College in group D at Kadirana.

President’s College v Maliyadeva College

Maliyadeva College eased into a cozy nine wicket win against President’s College, Kotte. Resuming from their overnight score of 197/4 Maliyadeva consolidated their position as they declared at 300/7 as Damitha Silva starred with an elegant unbeaten century. 

Having being put to bat in their second innings the President’s college lads showed little resistance as they were wrapped up for 213, thanks to a Sanjeewan Priyadarshana 5 for setting up a rather straightforward target of 69. The Maliyadeva lads raced to victory in 15.5 over with only a few casualties securing outright points.

Dharmasoka College v Anuradhapura MMV

Dharmasoka College brushed aside Anuradhapura MMV on the second day to secure an outright win for the former to win by a whopping 164 runs in a group C encounter in Anuradhapura. 

Anuradhapura collapsed after resuming their first innings on the second day for a mere 211 as Dananjaya Tammita’s valiant 90 went in vain for the hosts. Dharmasoka wasted little time in capitalizing on their advantage putting together a swift 196 all out, led by a Usham Imantha half ton, to set a target in excess of 300 for the hosts. Anuradhapura faltered under pressure as Lasith Kumara led the visitors in attack bagging 3 scalps to wrap up a dismal effort by the hosts for 131.

Lumbini College v Isipathana College

A dogged second innings batting performance by Lumbini Vidyalaya ensured that they covered their blushes from the first innings denying Isipathana College a well deserved victory in a group B encounter played at BRC grounds. 

Earlier Isipathana college complied a resounding 281 all out led by Sanjula Abaywickrama and Ayana Siriwardane. In response Lumbini collapsed at the hands of the Pathanian bowling for a below bar 117 thanks to a 5 for by Lahiru Dilshan. However, having asked to follow on, Lumbini set out with more intent as they managed to keep the resolute Isipathana attack at bay to save the game. Thanuka Dabare and Vinu Hemal notched up adamant half centuries to save the tie for Lumbini.

St. Mary’s College v St. Joseph Vaz College

St. Joseph Vaz College and St. Mary’s College managed to play off a draw in their traditional encounter worked off at Kalutara. Batting first the Joseph Vaz lads managed to compile a dominant 310/8d with Yohan Peiris scoring an unbeaten century while Sandaruwan Fernando fell two runs short on a well deserved century. 

In response St. Mary’s struggled as they only managed an ordinary 103 all out, the visiting Dananjaya Perera capped 7/29. The Joseph Vaz lads went on to consolidate on their lead as they added another 113/5d in the second effort. St. Mary’s held their own in the second innings as they battled it out to save the encounter despite surrendering first innings points to the visitors.
