Maliyadeva College and St. Anne’s College will fight the 39th Battle of the Rocks on the 24th and 25th of March, followed by the 27th One Day game on the 26th of March at Welegedara Grounds in Kurunegala.
The first ever Annite-Devan encounter was played way back in 1950. But due to various reasons, the series saw long halts which have allowed only 38 encounters to present. Maliyadeva College has won 6 times so far whereas the Annites have never won.
At this time, Kalindu Wijesinghe will lead St. Anne’s College while 5th-year colors man, Amesh Thennakoon is set to lead Maliyadeva College.

The Devans
Maliadeva College entered the battle this year with the honor of reaching the quarter-finals by representing division I of the inter-school cricket tournament organized by SLSCA.
From the batting front, Gayana Weerasinghe is their leading runs scorer with more than 1000 runs in this season including 3 centuries and 8 fifties. Skipper Thennakoon smashed over 800 runs including 5 fifties with a best of 137 against Prince of Wales College.
Also, as the wicket-keeper, Thennakoon has nearly 25 dismissals behind the stumps while Pasindu Menaka is also a centurion this season including best of 155 versus St. Anthony’s College from Katugasthota.
In the bowling department, 15-year-old, Dimath Abeysinghe picked 60 wickets as their highest wicket-taker while Gayana Weerasinghe bagged 26 scalps too.

The Annites
St. Anne’s came into the battle with a positive mindset after beating Nalanda College, Kingswood College and registering first innings win over St. Thomas College, Matara featuring tier ‘A’ of division I in the U19 Schools Cricket tournament.
Focusing on their batting side, Mahima Kotuwila who is their only centurion, smashed 625 runs with a best of 115 while Adithya Nirvan, Chamath Sasenjana, Yomesh Subasinghe and Buddhima Nandasiri stroked at the 400-run mark as well.
From the bowling front, the left-arm spinner, Kevin Nanayakkara has taken 56 wickets including 5/22 as his best. Apart from that, Yashmin Jayasundara took 30 wickets with a terrific spell of 7/14 against Kingswood College.
