Malindu Maduranga masterminds for Mahanama in drawn game

Mahanama College took major honours against St. Benedict’s College in their Singer-cup group B encounter which concluded today at St. Benedict’s grounds.

Resuming on 47 for 3 the hosts were bowled out for a paltry 159 inside 65 overs. Chamindu Wijesinghe made a fluent 51, while Hashan Sandeepa grabbed four wickets for the visitors. Mahanama College made 227 earlier in the game and finished the second innings on a high note scoring 301 for 6 in 52 overs. Malindu Maduranga’s century was the highlight of the day and he was ably supported by Niduka Welikala who made a solid 60 for the visitors.

St. Peter’s College vs Royal College

St. Peter’s College won the toss and opted to bat first as they put up a formidable 235 for 9 when the skipper Lakshina Rodrigo decided to declare their innings in a traditional game which began today in Bambalapitiya. Vinul Gunawardane made a classy 81 and inform skipper Lakshina Rodrigo steadied the ship with a well-made 73 for the hosts. Abhishek Perera and Manula Perera captured three wickets apiece for the lads from Reid Avenue. In reply the visitors were going strong at 72 for 1 with Ronuka Jayawardane unfinished on 44 at close of play.
