The Under 19 Division 1 Cricket tournament 2016/17 commenced today at Wesley grounds as the hosts took on Lumbini College. The visitors ended day one with the upper hand as the visitors amassed 248 and grabbed 5 scalps of Wesley for just 125 runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Lumbini were in a spot of bother before Kaveen Peris managed a rebellious 73 to drag the visitors to a respectable total of 248 all out in 57 overs. Ravindu Sanjeewa made a fighting 33 as Kanishka Maduwantha provided vital support  with 31 unbeaten runs for the visitors.

Kavinda Dissanayake was the pick of the bowlers for Wesley bagging 4 for 62 while Mohomad Ubayadulla pitched in with 2 for 29.

In reply Wesley College ended the day with the score at 125 for 5 in 38 overs as Kanishka Madushanka bagged all 5 of the wickets to fall in the Wesley innings.  Experienced batting all-rounder Jason De Silva was dismissed for 37 in the final ball of play as Lumbini added to the woes of the hosts.

Day 2 of the match will continue tomorrow (10/9) and Movin Subhasinghe unbeaten on 38 will resume proceedings for Wesley.
