Lumbini beat Nalanda in historical game

With 21 wickets falling down on day one of the match between Nalanda and Lumbini, it was bound to be a close tussle on day two.

Lumbini continuing day two with an over night score of 20 for 1 declared, ended their 2nd innings on 179 runs for 7 wickets in 51.5 overs. Chamara Nishantha and Anushan Iddamalgoda played a significant role scoring 42 and 28 respectively. The visitors however finished their innings on a high with middle order batsmen Rafan Mannan and Janith Dias remaining unbeaten. The former scoring a defiant half ton (51*), while Dias ended with a personal score of 25* runs.

Nalanda bowlers led by Malinga de Silva and Pramud Hettiwatte took the bulk of the wickets -3/52 and 3/60 respectively. 

Lumbini with a better 2nd innings batting display set up a 178 run target for the home side. The Nalandians however could not cope up with the right arm leg spin of Arushan Iddamalgoda who tore through the batting line up taking 6 wickets for just 12 runs. It was not the best batting show by the  home team who were shot out for118 runs in 52.4 overs.  

It was a superb bowling effort from the leggie who got a lot of assistance from a turning wicket. Chamara Nishantha also played his part early on capturing 3 wickets for 52 runs. 

The visitors with the help of their bowlers managed to record an emphatic 59 run win over Nalanda which incidentally was the first in history between the two schools. 

The match between Nalanda and Lumbini is a tournament match therefore has a very short history however it was a day to remember for Lumbini cricket.
