Colombo FC made a great comeback win in the last match of the DCL Super 8 Week 3 overcoming Air Force SC by 2-1 in the match worked off at the Kelaniya Football Complex today (17).

Resolute Blue Star frustrates Air Force

Resolute Blue Star outfit frustrated a strong Air Force team as they emerged with a goalless draw…

It was Air Force who kicked off things today with a goal as early as in the 10th minute by Nuwan Welgamage who made a bullet of a header to give his team the lead.

Defending champions Colombo FC were seen to be struggling especially in the final third of the pitch and it took them nearly 25 minutes to get a shot on target. It came off the foot of Nagur Meera but Air Force SC keeper Ruwan Arunasiri saved it easily.

The game slowed down somewhat afterwards as the heat seemed to affect the players.

Colombo lads bounced back into the game when Momas Yapo equalized off a Raumi Mohideen free kick. These kinds of set pieces are a specialty of their coach Roomy.

With 2 yellow cards in quick succession, things started going downhill for the Airmen when Colombo FC took back the lead off Dhanushka Madusanka who was assisted by Zarwan Johar just before the end of the first half.

Half Time – Air Force SC 1 – 2 Colombo FC

Colombo FC seemed to keep up the momentum they gained just before the first half ended and dominated the midfield with an array of one touch passes. They also managed to hold off the Air Force attacks clearing the ball away at the whiff of danger.

Defending Champions thump toothless Solid SC

Colombo FC steamrolled over Solid SC with a score of 3 – 0 to grab the first win of the year in the Dialog…

Many goal chances were missed by both teams throughout the second half with perhaps the most important last minute chance going over to Kavindu Ishan who could’ve equalized for Air Force but his curler went over the goal leaving the Airmen in despair.

With six minutes left on the clock Danushka Madushanka had a golden opportunity to bury the game when he danced past Ruwan Arunasiri, but with the goal at his mercy he could only find Rohan Fernando who cleared the ball off the line.

Raumi’s boys held their ground in the last few minutes to secure their second win of the Super 8 round to remain at the top of the table for another week.

ThePapare.com Player of the Match – Zarwan Johar (Colombo FC)

Speaking to ThePapare.com Air Force coach Mr. Sampath Perera said;

Despite the result the players played well. They improved a lot form last match. But the team lacks experience and that’s the reason for giving away unnecessary tackles and two of them resulted in goals for Colombo. We are trying to improve as a team going into the next match. Two of the main players didn’t play today and if they are fit it will be a great boost

Colombo FC coach Mr. Mohammed Roomy;

We played good aggressive football. We struggled in the first 15 minutes but replied well. Zarwan’s inclusion was part of the plan and he was the match winner for us today. We were trying to breach their off-side plan and we succeeded. We have to work on shooting and that was the only concern. Air Force played really well too, credits to them
