Lanka Premier League will conduct a player auction for the 1st time in its brief history for the 4th season of the competition.

The LPL auction is set to be held on the 11th of June. As per the guidelines revealed for the tournament, the franchises will be allowed to pick a maximum of 24 and a minimum of 20 players in each of their squads. Each squad should comprise 6 foreign players.

Each squad’s salary cap will be limited to 1,000,000 USD. Of which 500,000 USD will be available for the Auction. Each team can make 4 Direct Signings, with 1 Right to Match or 3 Direct Signings with 2 Right to Match before the Auction, spending a maximum of 500,000 USD (funds unspent will not be carried forward to the auction).

In order to maintain continuity in building squads, a player’s contractual period has been set for 3 years. However, the franchises have the right to retain or release players on mutual consent at the end of every year.

All players enlisted in the LPL auction will be classified under two main categories; capped and uncapped players. A player is considered a capped player if he has featured in the playing XI of a senior match for his country. The representation could be in any format – Test, ODI or T20I.

A player is considered as an uncapped player if he hasn’t featured in the playing XI of a senior match for his country (featuring in the senior squad will not count as being capped).

Sri Lanka Cricket is offering 50 million Sri Lankan Rupees as prize money for the winners of LPL 2023.

The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be held from 30th July to 20th August at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
