England registered a massive 223-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI of the three-match series played today (27th September) at The Oval in England. With this win, England clinched the series 2-1.
Having won the toss, England skipper Harry Brook opted to bat first. Sri Lanka went into the series decider with an unchanged playing XI after their impressive victory in the second ODI in Leeds.

England made the most of the opportunity as they posted a formidable 355/7 in their allotted 50 overs, with opener Tom Banton leading the charge with a magnificent century.
Banton produced a superb innings of 126 runs off 105 balls, smashing 16 fours and 5 sixes to put England firmly in control. He received valuable support from Brook and wicket-keeper batter Jordan Cox, who chipped in with impressive knocks of 77 and 76 runs respectively.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers struggled to contain the English batting line-up, although fast bowler Asitha Fernando stood out with a three-wicket haul. He finished with 3/64 from his 10 overs.
Chasing a daunting target of 356, Sri Lanka’s batting once again came under pressure as the visitors were bowled out for just 132 runs, falling well short of the target.
Captain Kusal Mendis was the only batter to make a notable contribution, scoring a quick-fire 35 off 26 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. However, the rest of the batting line-up failed to build meaningful partnerships as England’s bowlers dominated the chase.
Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson was the pick of the England attack, claiming 3/26, while the hosts wrapped up the Sri Lankan innings with plenty to spare.
