B – Love Kandy made it two wins in a row to beat Jaffna Kings in Match No. 9 of the Lanka Premier League 2023. The match was played today (5th August), at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
After winning the toss, B – Love Kandy Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga put Jaffna Kings in to bat first. The Kings made no changes, while Kandy made a couple, to bring Sahan Arachchige and Nuwan Pradeep, replacing Ashen Bandara and Mohammad Hasnain.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Charith Asalanka walked in as the openers for Jaffna, however, both of them were sent back to the dressing room by veteran Angelo Mathews with the new ball, reducing them to 7/2. Towhid Hridoy, David Miller and Priyamal Perera got starts, but all of them struggled to convert it to big ones.
Thisara Perera departed for just 2 runs, while Jaffna’s tailenders in Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Maheesh Theekshana and Nuwan Thushara did not trouble the scores.
The upcoming star Dunith Wellalage stood tall and gave his best with the bat. He scored 38 unbeaten runs off just 27 balls, which helped the Kings post 117/9 after falling apart in the middle overs.
The Skipper Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/9 in 4 overs. Nuwan Pradeep too bowled well to scalp 3 wickets. Angelo Mathews bowled a new-ball spell, finishing with 2/8 in 2 overs.

Chasing 118 to win, Fakhar Zaman and Dinesh Chandimal began the innings, but their partnership was reduced to 31 in 6.1 overs. Chandimal was the batter to depart after scoring 22. His knock came off 16 balls including 3 fours.
Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga promoted himself up the order and stitched together a 71-run stand for the 2nd wicket within only 6 overs with Zaman before Maheesh Theekshana struck to dismiss Zaman. The Pakistani batter scored 42 off 39 balls, which consisted of 2 fours & 2 sixes.
Hasaranga raced towards the target with a blistering knock of 52 runs, facing only 22 balls. B – Love Kandy chased down the target with 7 overs to spare and moved up to 4th place in the points table.
