Sri Lankan speedsters Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera have been ruled out of the ongoing 2-match Test series in Australia due to injury.

Pat Cummins demolishes Sri Lanka handing Australia a big win

Both Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera, didn’t take the field in the final session’s play on the 2nd day of the 1st Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Kumara bowled 15 overs in the 1st innings and went off the field with a hamstring niggle during day 2 while Chameera returned limping late in the day and bowled a spell with a diminished intensity. He in fact was able to take a wicket during that spell.

Chameera’s condition has not yet been made known, but the results of the scans which Kumara underwent yesterday has revealed a tear in his hamstring.

When Sri Lankan skipper Dinesh Chandimal was asked about the replacement for Kumara, who was seen limping to the stadium this morning with strapping on his right hamstring, in the press conference after their heavy defeat to the Aussies, he also revealed the ruling out of Chameera.

“Kumara is out for four to six weeks, so he’s out of the next game. And Dushmantha is also injured. So we’ll need to get another two quick bowlers”

Vishwa Fernando recalled to Sri Lanka Test squad

Twenty one-year old Lahiru Kumara has been Sri Lanka’s fastest bowler and has shown a lot of promise in him while Dushmantha Chameera showed signs of regaining his rhythm after losing colour due to continuous injury struggles. This double blow will be a big loss for Sri Lanka as Kumara & Chameera join the list of injury players, Angelo Mathews & Nuwan Pradeep

Suranga Lakmal, Kasun Rajtha and Vishwa Fernando are the other fast bowlers in the current Sri Lankan squad.
