All Island Interschool Tennis Tournament

The under 15 Tennis Teams of Ladies’ College and Ananda College took home the title of the All Island Inter-School Tennis Tournament for the year 2017. The final matches were worked off today (4th May) at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association.

The girls’ under 15 age group was carried forward from last year, just as the boys’ under 19, due to unfortunate weather conditions on the scheduled dates.

In the boys’ category, Ananda College took home the win over the dominant Royalists. Royal College had been a top runner for the title from the get-go but coach Anupa Matthemagoda of the Ananda’s clan had other ideas. The third-place battle was a classic Joe-Pete clash.

Coach Dinith Pathirajah of St. Peter’s College drove the under 19 team to victory last month and proudly doubled his winnings today. His experience saw through his juniors to finish third, leaving the Josephians with a fourth-place finish.

Shockingly, Visakha Vidyalaya was not able to reach the finals of the 2017 games as they have done in the past couple of years. They finished third edging out Musaeus College. St. Bridget’s Convent was no match for the ladies from flower road as they went on to massacre the Bridgetines in the final.

Coach Sylvester Francis will pride over his team of juniors who he has trained since the beginning of their careers. With this win, Ladies’ College will come in strong for the 2018 Games which are scheduled for the month of June.
