Key transfers ahead of 2020/21 SLC domestic season

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) domestic tournament is set to kick off on Friday, 23rd October 2020, with the Major T20 Tournament, unless there are any further developments with regards to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The top players in the local club arena are ready to make a mark once again while pushing for national selection as we at ThePapare.com take a look at a some key transfers that have taken place in the tier ‘A‘ segment ahead of the season.

Army SC

The soldiers have strengthened their spin department with former Sri Lanka spinner Tharindu Kaushal making a switch from BRC, while the young mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana is also in their ranks for this season. Leg spinning all-rounder Suminda Lakshan Fernando who has also been a star for Air Force SC in the tier B segment during the last couple of years, will turn up for Army SC this season along with chinaman bowler Ravindu Tillakaratne.

Badureliya SC

After a below-par 2019/20 season, Badureliya SC have a lot of promising talent for the upcoming season as Milinda Siriwardena returns for them from Saracens SC, along with the likes Mohomad Dilshad and Chamikara Edirisinghe who were his teammates at Saracens SC.

Sri Lanka capped batsman Sandun Weerakkody has also made the switch from SSC, while the big hitting all-rounder Nimanda Madushanka who has been a good white ball cricketer for Moors SC in the past will bolster a promising Badureliya SC line up.

Moors SC

Left arm seamer Dilesh Gunaratne will turn up for Moors SC this season after completing a decent stint with NCC, while Kavindu Kulasekara who couldn’t really get going for SSC over the past couple of years will also feature for Moors SC this season.

In other notable transfers Ranitha Liyanarachchi, Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Malinga Amarasinghe will turn up for Moors this season.

Saracens SC

Another team that has had a major revamp is Saracens SC. Hashan Dumindu who struggled to feature in Colts’ playing XI will be leading a young-looking side in the upcoming season.

Sri Lanka cap and left arm seamer Chaminda Bandara is set to turn up for Saracens along with some other notable additions in Prasansana Jayamanne (from Tamil Union), Hashen Ramanayake (from BRC), Salinda Ushan (from Baduraliya SC), Udith Madushan (from Lankan CC), Ayana Siriwardana(from Moors SC) and leg-spinning all-rounder Sanjaya Chathuranga.

Lankan CC

Harsha Cooray will turn up for Lankan CC this season as the club has decided to strengthen their pace stocks with the addition of Kasun Madusanka and Vimukthi Perera (from Tamil Union) and Saliya Saman(from Saracens) to their lineup. Left arm tweaker Dinosh de Silva is set to lead the spin attack as he makes the switch from Badureliya SC.

BRC

Fast bowling all-rounder Lahiru Samarakoon has moved on from Badureliya SC along with his teammate Dushan Hemantha to BRC this season, as the club looks to build on a decent 2019/20 season after making the Super 8s.

Sachintha Peiris who has been a useful off-spinner in the domestic circuit replaces Tharindu Kaushal while Nimesha Gunasinghe will bolster the batting after making the switch from NCC.

SSC

The club which struggled right throughout the previous season has added Kasun Rajitha (from Saracens) and Prabath Jayasuriya(from Colts) to strengthen their bowling stocks along with the switch of young Lakshitha Rasanjana who impressed for Negombo CC last season with his right-arm off spin.

Colts, who seem to have lost a lot of their players during the transfers, have lost their captain in Avishka Fernando as well as he is set to feature for SSC this season.

Tamil Union CAC

A couple of other star Colts players in Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dilruwan Perera are also set to feature for Tamil Union this season, while Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Pradeep has also made a switch from SSC.

Colombo Colts CC

Colts have lost a number of their top players from last season while not many players have been added to their squad so far. Former Sri Lanka U19 spinner Saranga Rajaguru and Harsha Rajapakse are new additions to a lineup that may struggle to find its balance this season.

Negombo CC

Nishan Peiris has replaced Lakshitha Rasanjana as an off-spinner in Negombo CC’s line up after making the switch from Ragama CC.

All-rounder Nisala Tharaka has also made the switch from Colts to Negombo CC this season, while Lahiru Milantha who was in stellar form with bat last season for Badureliya SC is also set to feature for the club from Negombo.

Ragama CC, NCC, CCC and the Chilaw Marians are set to feature a very similar squad from the previous season, as Sri Lanka’s domestic season is set to begin later this month with the T20s and the Lanka Premier League to follow.
