Kavishka Senadeera bowls Trinity College to victory

Here’s a round up of the matches which took place in the Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament today.

Trinity College v St Anne’s College

13 wicket haul from left-arm spinner Kavishka Senadeera helped Trinity College register a massive win by an innings and 57 runs against St Anne’s College in their group D clash at the Asgiriya Stadium.

The hosts resumed play with 183 on board for the loss of 3 wickets. Abhishek Anandakumara was given the chance to reach triple figures as he was unbeaten on 81 overnight, but he failed to get those runs. He fell for 86 and Trinity College declared their innings at 192 for 5.

The Annites had to bat out of their skins to save the game but it wasn’t the case as they were cleaned up for just 67 runs in 35.3 overs. Kavishka Senadeera was the pick of the bowlers once again as he took 7 wickets to add to his 6 wicket haul in the first.

Maliyadewa College v Dharmasoka College

Dharmasoka College took honours on day one of their match against Maliyadewa College at Kurunegala. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. Things didn’t go according to plan as wickets kept falling for the home side. Aroshana De Soyza was the Chief destroyer with 4 wickets as Maliyadewa got cleaned up for just 123 runs.

In response, the boys from Ambalangoda managed to secure the first innings victory and end the day one at 196 for 8 at stumps. Senal De Silva scored a half century for Dharmasoka.

Moratu Vidyalaya v St Anthony’s College

Moratu MMV secured a first innings victory over St Anthony’s College in their traditional encounter at Moratuwa today. They resumed play at 249 for 8 on board. Dilshan Dulakshana’s late order cameo of 33 helped them post 295 for their first innings. Pathum Vihanga of St Anthony’s ended with figures of 5 for 83.

The Anthonians struggled from the beginning. Apart from Avishka Tharindu and Joel Pinto, no other batsman got going as they were cleaned up for 129 runs. Eran Hansamal bagged a 5-fer for the hosts.

Moratu MMV decided to bat again and they too struggled to get going thanks to some good bowling by Pathum Vihanga who bagged 4 more wickets to add to his 5-fer in the first innings. They declared their innings at 62 for 7.

The visitors had an unrealistic target of 229 runs to get in 15 overs. They were 35 for 3 at stumps on day 2.

Thurstan College v Prince of Wales College

Prince of Wales College batted through the day in their traditional match against Thurstan College at Thurstan grounds. The home side skipper Sandaru Dias won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The decision proved wrong in the first session itself when the conditions favoured the batsmen. Prince Fernando was the pick of the batters with a half century while skipper Suwath Mendis scoring a patient 43.
