When will the U-14 and U-16 tournaments commence?

The U-14 and U-16 Rugby tournaments, that were previously played on separate days and months in the year, to the main 1St 15 tournament, has now changed its format for the new season of 2018.

The two tournaments that were played on two consecutive days after the commencement of the Singer Schools Rugby League, now will be played parallel to the main league. Meaning, there will be two tournament games for the youngsters before the much waited first XV game.

The Under 14 and 16 Schools tournaments are primarily aimed at upbringing the junior age groups and is organized under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association to improve the junior rugby system in the country. The initiative that kicked off a few years ago and has had tremendous growth with ample schools enlisting themselves in the junior tournament. Played under normal world rugby guidelines, both age groups will use the full ground as the playing area.

Last year or the last time around, the U-16 tournament was held from October to September, where Isipathana and Science College met in the final and Isipathana College came on top. While the St. Peters’ U14 team became champions of their tournament, which was held in September defeating St. Joseph’s College 14 points to 05.
