Legendary Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene’s staunchly opposed to the idea of day-night Test matches using a pink ball.

With anticipation building ahead of Friday’s historic Test match between the Black Caps and Australia at the Adelaide Oval, Jayawardene said he’s not sold on the idea.

Jayawardene, who has played in 149 Tests, doesn’t think the five-day format should be tinkered with.

“We shouldn’t push the envelope too much, I think we should stick to playing the old traditional game of cricket,” said Jayawardene.

“Commercially it might not be viable but, come on, we’re making so much money from the other formats that I think we should leave Test cricket alone.

“I’m not in favour of all these changes, especially the pink ball and night games. Especially in the subcontinent, it’s going to be tough because of the dew factor and the conditions are going to be quite different.”

Jayawardene will make his debut for the Central Stags tonight in their Twenty20 clash with the Northern Knights at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
