Isipathana and St. Sebastian’s register first innings wins

Despite continuous rain during the start of the first week of November, Isipathana College and St. Sebastian’s College recorded crucial first-innings wins on Tuesday in the ‘Singer Cup’ under 19 division one tournament 2015/16.


Isipathana College vs St. Servatius College

Skipper Salinda Ushan’s 92 helped Isipathana record a first-innings win over St. Servatius College Matara in their drawn encounter which ended at BRC grounds.

The visitors were bundled out for 132 on day one by right-arm off-spin duo, Pramod Maduwantha and Iwanka Sanjula. Left-handed Salinda capitalized on a good batting surface to top-score for the hosts’.

St. Servatius – 132 all out in 51.4 overs: Kavindu Umesh 48, Ashen Deemantha 28, Yuran Nimesh 15, Pramod Madhuwantha 5/52, Iwanka Sanjula 4/29.

Isipathana – 166 all out in 53 overs: Salinda Ushan 91, Pethum Nisshanka 31,Chanuka Dilshan 4/36, Ramesh Nimantha 2/8, Ashen Deemantha 2/60.

St. Servatius (2nd inn) – 130/4 in 33 overs: Ramesh Nimantha 53, Kavindu Umesh 29, Yuran Nimesh 24, Iwanka Sanjula 3/59.

St. Sebastian’s College vs St. Joseph Vaz College

A thrilling match ended in a draw even though St. Sebastian’s College managed to win the game on first innings against St. Joseph Vaz College at Albert Peiris grounds in Wennappuwa.

Tharusha Fernando picked up 6 wickets 41 runs for the visitors in the first innings while Praveen Jayawickrama scalped a 7-wicket haul for 53 runs in the second innings. Incidentally 118 was the highest score in this low-scoring cracker.

St. Joseph Vaz – 86 all out in 47.5 overs: Shehan Ranathunga 27, Tharusha Fernando 6/41.

St. Sebastian’s – 113 all out in 50.4 overs (Praveen Perera 24, Tharusha Fernando 18, Thulanjana Fernando 5/44.

St. Joseph Vaz (2nd inn) – 118 all out in 67.4 overs: Praveen Dilanka 60*, Pasindu Dilshan 22, Praveen Jayawickrama 7/53, Sachith Silva 2/17.

St. Sebastian’s (2nd inn) – 61/5 in 34 overs (Sandaruwan Fernando 20*, Roshen Fernando 3/23, Praveen Dilanka 2/15.

D.S Senanayake College vs St. Sylvester’s College

The match between St. Sylvester’s College Kandy and D.S. Senanayake College Colombo ended in a tame draw without a result at Wijerama Mawatha.

Only 82.4 overs were possible on both days. Torin Pitigala’s half-century was the only highlight in the game for the hosts while spinner Sivakumar Tyron picked up a five-for to help the visitors.

Devapathiraja College vs Karandeniya Central College

In a division two match, Devapathiraja College, Rathgama recorded a first-innings victory over Karandeniya Central College at Karandeniya.

After posting 201 runs on the board, Prasanna Karunawansha and co bowled superbly to restrict the hosts to a mere 89 but only 27.3 overs were possible after enforcing the follow-on.
