The British School swimmers shine
The British School in Colombo grabbed nine medals including three gold medals at the just concluded InterInternational School Swimming Championships at the Sugathadasa Swimming pool on Sunday.
Swimmers representing 19 International School in Sri Lanka competed for honours at the two-day competition where Lyceum College, Wattala emerged clear winner followed by Gateway College, Colombo and Lyceum College, Negegoda in the second and third places respectively. The British School finished a creditable seventh place.
For the British School Siwoo Lee was the cynosure of all eyes as he won three medals, gold and two silver medals in the boys U-11 age group while Joshua Jesuthasan also picked up three medals including boys u-14 100m free style gold medal. Lee clocked 2 minute 54.68 secs in the 200m individual medley to win the gold medal. He then finished second in the 50m breaststroke clocking 41.26 secs and 100m freestyle with a time 1 minute 10.07 secs.
Jesuthasan clocked an impressive 1 minute 01.57 seconds to clinch the gold medal in the 100m dash and then returned a time of 2 minutes 12.00 secs in the 200m freestyle to finish in the close second place. In the 50m free style, the budding swimmer clocked 27.03 seconds to finish third and to finish the two-day competition with three medals.
Meanwhile Sarini Wijekoon competing in girls U-16 and over backstroke recorded a time of 36.46 secs to win the gold medal. Amber Tappin clocked 42.80 secs in the girls U-11 50 meter backstroke for her bronze medal while Anish Jayawardena finished third in the boys 16 and over 100m breaststroke with
