Resuming day two on 135 for 3, India batted for 38 overs on a hot and scorching day on an unresponsive surface to end up on 312 for 8. The two overnight batsmen, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane reached 53 and 40 respectively before heading to the pavilion.

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma who are battling for a Test spot in Galle batted for more than an hour to score 38 and 41 respectively before the management decided to give a bat to the lower middle order.

After lunch, Tharindu Kaushal who mesmerized India in 2015 dismissed Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja as the game was called-off on mutual understanding at around 2.00pm. Wriddhiman Saha remained unbeaten on 36.
