The Sri Lankan athletes currently training in Qatar, Greshan Dananjaya and Sarangi Silva, excelled with flying colours capturing gold medals in the long jump event.
The event was held on Monday, the 15th of March.
In the women’s event, Sarangi finished with a distance of 6.27 meters. The distance from Sarangi surpassed that of the Diamond League Netherland athlete Eva Bastmeijer.
The intensity in the men’s event was not as much as the women’s but the Lankan represent came out with a convincing performance jumping 7.70 meters.
Both the gold medals came amidst Qatar’s soaring temperatures as the two players continue to prepare for their quest of Olympic qualification distance.
The two of them are in Qatar, currently under a sports scholarship after winning gold at the recently concluded 98th National Athletic Championships.
