Galigamuwa Central College and Dhammissara National School, Naththandiya won the U19 girls’ & boys’ championships respectively in the 17th DSI Supersport Schools’ Volleyball Championship 2017.

U19 Girls

Galigamuwa Central College defeated Vijayaba National School 3-0 to win the U19 Girls’ Championship.

Galigamuwa Central dominated Vijayaba National School in the straight sets win. Galigamuwa secured the 1st set 25-17 & the 2nd set 25-11. The 3rd set too was an easy win with the scores reading 25-15.

In the semi-finals Vijayaba National School, Hungama defeated Anamaduwa Central College 2-1. It was the girls from Anamaduwa who won a close 1st set 24-26. Vijayaba fought back to win the 2nd set in equal fashion 25-23. Vijayaba rode on the momentum to comfortably win the 3rd set 25-12.

In the 2nd semi-final Galigamuwa Central defeated Eheliyagoda Dharmapala Vidyalaya 2-0. They won the 1st set 25-15 & the 2nd set 25-17.

U19 Boys

Dhammissara National School defeated Rajasinghe Central College, Ruwanwella in a thrilling 5 sets.

St.Xavier’s & Rajasinghe Central in three DSI Volleyball boys’ finals

St.Xavier’s College, Marawila and Rajasinghe Central College…

Rajasinghe Central College was down by four points early on but fought back to win the 1st set 25-21. In the 2nd set it was a close affair but towards the end Dhammissara National School took a 5-point lead and finished off the set 18-25. The 3rd set saw Rajasinghe Central returned the favour taking an early 6-point lead and maintained it to win 25-19 and with it the psychological advantage.

However, after having a 4-point lead, Rajasinghe Central missed out on an opportunity to close out the match as Dhammissara roared back to win a thriller 26-28. Rajasinghe Central was not able to recover from the shock as Dhammissara won the 5th set and the match 15-9.

St.Joseph Vaz College and Rajasinghe Central College were involved in an entertaining semi-final where Rajasinghe College came out winners 2-1. Rajasinghe College won the 1st set 25-16 before St.Joseph Vaz College responded winning the 2nd set 17-25 to send the game into a deciding 3rd set. It was Rajasinghe College who came out on top winning the decider 25-15.

In the 2nd semi-final Dhammissara MMV, Naththandiya had an easier passage to the final winning 25-18 & 25-14 against Davisamara Maha Vidyalaya.
